As of January 1, 2012, paper savings bonds can no longer be sold at financial institutions. This action supports the Treasury’s goal to increase the number of electronic transactions with citizens and businesses as stated in a release from the Treasury on July 13, 2011. The release also states that electronic savings bonds in Series EE and Series I will remain available through purchase in TreasuryDirect®. To set up an account or find out more information about buying electronic savings bonds please visit the TreasuryDirect® website.
